

Stanley J. Kersavage, Jr. Of Susquehanna, PA Stanley J. Kersavage, Jr., 57, of Grand St., Susquehanna, passed away on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at his home after an illness. He was born in Susquehanna, PA, the son of the late Stanley J. and Helen (Hurley) Kersavage. He is survived by a sister Christina Kersavage, Rochester, NY and several cousins. Stanley attended Laurel Hill Academy of Susquehanna, where he was a member of the basketball team. He was a member of St. John’s Church of Susquehanna, PA. He was also a member of the Legion Post #86 and Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #794 of Susquehanna. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 4, 2009, at 2pm, at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, with the Rev. Albert Leonard officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 12:30 to 2pm. |
| Seward R. Rice Of Susquehanna, PA Seward R. Rice, 79, of Susquehanna, PA, formerly of Thompson, PA, passed away January 2, 2009 at the Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna, PA. He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn; brother Lawrence Rice; and sister Marguerite Lafayette. Seward was survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and John Strockbine, of Conklin, NY; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Lois A. Rice, of North Jackson, PA; one grandson Todd Rinker and companion Tee-Jay Rossie, of Maine, NY; two granddaughters Marcy and Craig Rychlewski, of Conklin, NY, and Amanda and Don Geiger, of Kirkwood, NY; four great grandchildren, Makayla Rinker, Aidan Geiger, Ryan Rychlewski, and Rachel Rychlewski; also Alexis and Tyler Dietzen; several nieces and nephews; very close friend, Thelma J. May whose love through the years meant so much; Jim Grande, Roland Salamon and special friends who were always there. Seward was born and raised in the Thompson, PA area. After the loss of his beloved wife, Evelyn in 1957, he led a full life with many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, PA game commission, stock car racing, snowmobiling, antique furniture, and bottle collecting. He was employed by the Hallstead Iron Foundry for many years until they closed their doors. “Ricey” spent much of his life at the Penn Can Speedway, serving as a Promoter, Race Car driver and stock car enthusiast from the 1960’s through the 1990’s. In the 1970’s when he wasn’t racing he was snowmobiling. He blazed and cleared trails in both Susquehanna and Wayne counties, negotiating with farmers and landowners to drop fences and connect trails. He played a crucial part in creating what is now “Rails for Trails.” He loved Cadillac’s, 4th of July picnics, his gazebo, and the town of Thompson, PA. Seward will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and fans. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 at 11am, at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA, with Rev. Fred Johnson officiating. Burial will be held in the Ararat, Cemetery, Ararat, PA. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, on Tuesday, January 6th, 2009, from 5 to 8pm. |
