Alex Eli Fenik Of North Kingstown, RI Alex Eli Fenik,83, of North Kingstown, RI, passed away Sunday September 23rd at Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna,Pa near his vacation home at Wrighter Lake, PA. Alex was born March 4th, 1929 to the late Alex T. and Sophie Fenik. He is predeceased by his wife of nearly 59 years, Betty Jo Fraley Fenik who passed away this May. He is survived by his children, a daughter, Elizabeth P. Fenik and her husband Cliffe Raymond of East Greenwich, RI, and a son, A. Thomas Fenik. He had two grandchildren, Katherine and Alex Daniel Fenik a nephew Charles E. Butler III and was the brother of the late Theodora (Dorothy) Butler of Farmington Hills, Michigan and Margate, Florida. Alex was educated in Elizabeth New Jersey, graduated from Roanoke College in Virginia and received a Masters Degree from Columbia University. He was a veteran having served in the US Army captaining a Crash Boat in Korea. Upon his discharge he began a teaching career in science in Chatham Township NJ, teaching also in Cranford and New Providence, NJ, eventually returning to become the principal of Chatham Township high school. He retired in 1986 and moved to North Kingstown, RI. He enjoyed his retirement, traveling to Europe and out West. He collected antique firearms and furniture, spent time sailing, belonged to the Wickford Yacht Club and was an active member of Smith’s Castle in North Kingstown. He loved to read, and was a big fan of the Providence College Friars basketball program. Alex was a dedicated husband and father who cherished his family and friends. He was a lover of dogs, especially German Short Haired Pointers. He was proud of his Russian heritage and his Russian Orthodox faith. Larger than life, Alex was known for a witty sense of humor, a big smile and general calmness he brought to all he knew. He was well loved and will be sorely missed. A funeral mass will be held on Monday October 1st at 10am at SS Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church in Elizabeth, NJ with Right Rev. Emil Minkovich officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Hillside NJ. The family will received friends at the Krowicki McCracken Funeral Home 2124 East Saint Georges Ave. Linden, NJ on Sunday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm.
