Barbara Anne Durso
Of Susquehanna, PA
Barbara Anne Durso, 92, of West Church St., Susquehanna, passed away on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Barnes Kasson Hospital, Susquehanna.
She was born on St. Barbara’s Day in Scranton, PA, the daughter of the late Kalman Vilogi and Frances Moleski.
She was predeceased by her husband, Neil A. Durso II, sisters Maria “Dolly” Emilianne and Dolores Janesky, brother Joseph “Sonny” Vilogi, and her aunts of note, Edna, Martha, and Vicky. She is also predeceased by her first born, “The Best of Us,” Barbara A. Forrester, as well as another light of her life, her nephew Bernard “Skoozer” Janesky.
She is survived by her children Neil A. Durso III, Maria S. McIntyre (husband Michael), Corrine Durso (husband Andrew Clague), Kalman S. Durso (wife Melissa Sussman), Frances A. Durso (husband Gary Folk), and son-in-law Walter Forrester (husband of Barbara Forrester), and her nephew Joseph “Skip” Vilogi MD, and nieces Debra Winger, Barbara Janesky, Lisa Tyrrell.
She is also survived by the apples of her eye, her grandchildren Madelyn and David Forrester, Joseph, Gabriel, and Noah Durso, Maud and Anna McIntyre, and Olivia Folk.
Of special note, the family would like to acknowledge and express their most sincere love and gratitude to Mary Butts for her role as Barbara’s housekeeper, confidant, chauffeur, nurse, and friend.
Born, “drug- up,” and having earned her Nursing Degree as a devout Catholic in the melting pot section of Scranton, PA., Barbara was the first-generation daughter of a Hungarian coal miner and his Polish bride.
A wedding and six children later, she resumed her nursing career at Barnes Kasson hospital in maternity. Barbara was present for the entry and exit of thousands of God’s children.
Upon the death of the love of her life, Barbara continued with her hobbies of spending time with children and grandchildren, porch talk with her neighbors, patronizing Briar’s/Pj’s, Chrissy Davis’ Lakey’s, and the American Legion, gossiping at Annette’s Feathercuts, watching and listening to Kelly and Melissa destroy her surroundings in an attempt to revive them, and playing cards first with Maddie and continuing that tradition with her greatest card nemesis, Olivia. Olivia’s countless days and nights with Nana kept her mind sharp, her laughter loud, and her pointed remarks true to form.
Barbara enjoyed her time dignifying related and unrelated children of God. She danced with, drank with, and celebrated with everyone. She was a servant of humanity, a force of nature, and a character to the end.
