Beverly Ann Lloyd

November 21, 1928 — July 27, 2022

Beverly Lloyd

Of Deposit, NY

Beverly Lloyd passed away peacefully on July 27, 2022 after leading a long and courageous life.  She faced many challenges in her 93 years, but she met them all with spirit and determination.

Bev was born on November 21, 1928, the youngest child of Horace and Edith (Barnes) Smith.  Most of her early years were spent in Pennsylvania, surrounded by a large and loving extended family.  She enjoyed telling stories of growing up on the farm and always described herself as a country girl.  Bev learned a strong work ethic from those days and carried it throughout her life.  The highest praise she could give was to describe someone as a hard worker.

Bev loved school and was very proud of her educational accomplishments.  She was valedictorian of her eighth grade class in Jackson, PA and went on to graduate from Union Endicott High School.  She realized her goal of becoming a teacher after obtaining her BS degree from Cortland State Teachers’ College.

After teaching Kindergarten for two years in Norwich, NY, Bev moved to Deposit.  She spent the rest of her career teaching Kindergarten and first grade in the Deposit Central School system.  Although she joked that she could never get any higher than the first grade, she taught “the Three Rs” to hundreds of children before her well-earned retirement in 1984.  She never stopped loving reading and children. To the end she thought of herself as a teacher.

Bev met the love of her life when she was introduced to Richard (Hap) Lloyd by a fellow teacher.  They were married on August 16, 1953.  Bev and Hap spent 28 happy years together raising their family, snowmobiling in the winter, spending weekends at their Laurel Lake cottage in the summer, and enjoying good times with their close friends, affectionately referred to as “the Gang”.  Bev was a true helpmate and partner, and she often assisted her husband in his many endeavors.

When Hap’s life was tragically cut short in 1981, Bev was determined to stay busy.  Her strong faith led to countless activities in the Deposit Methodist Church; attending Bible studies, teaching Sunday School, and serving in many leadership positions in the church and the United Methodist Women.    She was an integral member of the church’s Craft Club and loved the days she spent creating crafts for the church’s annual show and sale.  Bev also volunteered at Deposit’s Closet and the Deposit Elementary School.  For many years she was President of the Oakwood Cemetery and faithfully recruited (some might say badgered!) volunteers into coming every year for spring clean-up days.  She loved reading, jigsaw puzzles, Jeopardy, and word searches.  Her grandchildren will always carry the memories of playing board games like Uno, Scrabble, Authors, and Uncle Wiggly with their Grammie.

Bev was predeceased by her parents, her husband, sister and brother-in-law Bette and Dick Lillie, brother and sisters-in-law Bill, Dorothy, and Pauline Smith, and brother-in-law Albert Lloyd.  She missed them all greatly and will happily join them again in heaven.

Bev is survived by daughter and son-in-law Becky and Paul Hochuli, son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Jane (Walker) Lloyd, grandchildren Josh Lloyd, Ben Lloyd, Beth and Rob Hesch, and Rick and Allison Hochuli, as well as her adored great-grandchildren: Abigail and Michael Lloyd, Abigail and Ryan Hesch, and Caiden and Maizie Hochuli.  She also leaves behind sister-in-law Betty Lloyd and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.  Bev treasured all her family and friends.  She kept Hallmark in business sending cards for all occasions.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 30 from 3-6 p.m. at Hennessey’s Funeral Home; 78 Second Street; Deposit, NY.   A funeral service to celebrate Bev’s life will be held on Sunday, July 31 at 1 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Deposit.  Interment in Oakwood Cemetery will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Deposit; 109 Second Street; Deposit, NY 13754.  If you wish to honor Bev’s life, call, visit, or write to a senior citizen or someone who is lonely.  The joy you bring to them will be returned to you many times over.
