Carl A. Lawrenson 92 of Susquehanna, PA (Feb. 20, 1924 – Mar. 23, 2016) Carl A. Lawrenson went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 23, 2016. He was the son of Orr and Neva Mae (Severson) Lawrenson. He was predeceased by his loving wife Elizabeth Rae (Regan) Lawrenson to whom he was married for over 66 years, and his brother-in-law Kenneth Catlin. He is survived by his sister, Arlene Catlin, of Montrose, PA, and his children Cecile Ball and husband William of Springville, PA, Fred Lawrenson and wife, Holly, of Elkland, PA, Jane Mazikewich and husband, William, of Susquehanna, PA, Kim Lawrenson and wife, Mary Ann, of Thompson, PA, and Stephen Lawrenson and wife, JoAnne, of Susquehanna, PA, grand children Jennifer Sorber (Scott) of Vestal, NY, Amy Ide (Bill) of Elkton, MD, Jason Ball (Bree) of Vestal, NY, David Lawrenson of Fort Walton Beach, FL, Neva Burns (Dane) of New London, NC, Erin Greene (Jelani) of Buffalo, NY, Kristin Peters (Stewart) of Knoxville, TN, Alec Mazikewich (Erin) of Susquehanna, PA, Stephen Mazikewich of Susquehanna, PA and girl friend Keliann of Vestal, NY, Katie Lawrenson and fiancé Kyle of NYC, Lindsay Lawrenson of Susquehanna, PA, Maggie Lawrenson of NYC, Emily and Sophie Lawrenson of Thompson, PA, and 21 great grandchildren. Carl is also survived by two nieces, Nancy Newhart (Maurice, deceased) and Bev Gerlins (Aivars); Two nephews, Rex Catlin (Paula) and Richard Catlin (Joanne). Mr. Lawrenson served in the U.S. Army’s 88th infantry (The Blue Devils of Italy) from Jan.1944 – Mar. 1946 where he was severely wounded and was awarded a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He was a life long member of the American Legion Post 86 of Susquehanna, PA. He also served 10 years on the Susquehanna Community School District Board of directors and formerly served as vice president of the board of directors of Barnes Kasson Memorial Hospital. Carl was a member of the Susquehanna United Methodist Church where he served as board member and president and choir member. He obtained his 1st PA barber’s license in 1953 and ran the Oakland Barbershop for over 4 decades. In 1994, his daughter, Jane Mazikewich, joined him in the shop, eventually taking it over in 1998. Mr. Lawrenson continued to work at the shop part time until retiring at age 80 in 2004. He enjoyed golf, gardening and watching baseball and he loved to paint. Our father was a beautiful soul, who served God, country, family and community. He is one of the last of the Greatest Generation and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. The funeral service will be held Monday, March 28th immediately following calling hours from 11:00 to 1:00 at The Susquehanna United Methodist Church on Main St., Susquehanna, PA. The service will be offered by Vincent Chiaramonte, Certifed Lay Servant. Burial at McKune Cemetery, Susquehanna. Arrangements are by Hennessey’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Susquehanna United Methodist Church or the Susquehanna Fire Dept. Ambulance.
