Darrell Lloyd Whitney Of Susquehanna, PA Darrell L. Whitney, 83, of Susquehanna, PA passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at the Geisinger CMC hospital, in Scranton, PA after an illness. He was predeceased by his parents Harold & Ethel Whitney, brothers Donald and Gyle Whitney; sisters Ellen Clark, Betty Seamans, Josephine Ailers, Jean McNamara; and son-in-law Frank Rinker. Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Teresa McCarthy Whitney whom he married in the St. John’s Church on January 2, 1954. Also surviving are his children Diane and Theodore Marbaker, Sandra Rinker, Barbara and Dennis Ballard, Frederick and Mary Whitney and Charles and Kelly Whitney; brother Bryce Whitney; sister Beryl Haley; grandchildren Ted and Nick Marbaker, Jeanette Cunningham, George Rinker, Sara Swartz, Rachael Thomas, Aaron Whitney, and Dylan Whitney; and over 20 great grandchildren. Darrell served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He served on the Susquehanna Borough Council for several years including time as Council President. Darrell was considered the “Family Driving Instructor”. He enjoyed gardening, berry picking, walking, and hiking. Darrell and his wife Teresa enjoyed taking travel excursions together including trips to Alaska, Ireland, and the Panama Canal just to name a few. Darrell was always known well in the neighborhood for assisting the elderly including delivering “Meals on Wheels” for many years. Most important to Darrell was his loving family who will miss him dearly. A Funeral Service will be held at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA on Friday, July 21, 2017 at 11am with Rev. Connor. Interment will be held in the St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna ,PA. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Thursday, July 20, 2017 from 6 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. John’s Church, 15 East Church St. Susquehanna, PA.
