Donald Carl Ritner, 89, of New Milford, Pennsylvania, passed away at home on Saturday, December 21, 2024.

Don was born and raised in Tenafly, New Jersey, and worked at the Bergen Record newspaper in Hackensack, New Jersey, as a typesetter until he retired. He was an accomplished chess player who enjoyed traveling. Don will be remembered as a good friend, a kind soul, and a gentle man.

Don is predeceased by his wife, Betty Ritner; his sister Lizzie Daly and brother Richard Ritner.

He is survived by his sister, Millie Allermann and his six children, Donald A. Ritner; Robert Ritner; Lily Ritner Aungst and her husband Dale; Joseph Ritner; Thomas (T.J.) Ritner and his wife, Jan Marie; and Paul Ritner; and numerous nieces and nephews. Don’s legacy rests in his beloved grandchildren, Bridget Jones, Serra and Jackie Ritner, Max Leach, Alyx Leach, Thomas Ritner, and Sophia Hayward, and his great-grandchildren Leilani Ritner, Piper and Lettie Cobb, and Little Max Leach and Taliah Hayward.

A private repast will be attended by his close family.
