Dorothy Jane Peterson Of Thompson, PA Dorothy Jane Peterson, 90, of Thompson, PA, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011, at the Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna, PA. She was predeceased by her husband Roy (Pete) Peterson in 1989. DJ was born in Logan, PA, on October 29, 1920, the daughter of Harlan and Mildred (Orr) Buchanan. She is survived by her children John and Jeanne Peterson, of Gouldsboro, ME; Carolee and Stuart Slocum, of Thompson, PA; grandchildren Jason and Stephanie Slocum, Jill and Casey Wiedmaier, Carolyn Peterson Snyder, and Cristy Peterson Woelkers; three step-grandchildren; ten great grandchildren, including Aliyah, Claire and Madeline who were especially close; and one great-great grandson. DJ was very fond of her “adopted” families of Don and Alice Whitney, Lori and Larry Welch, Loren and Carla Whitney, and Lesley and Roger Stonier. She had a strong faith and was a active member of the North Jackson United Methodist Church, where she frequently delivered the children’s sermon. DJ was a member of the Sunshine Chapter of Eastern Star, serving several terms as Worthy Matron and was a District Deputy. She was also a member of the Monday Club. Known as “Doffy”, DJ attended clown school in Florida, while in her 70’s, and still continued to entertain children and adults alike. She loved reading, needlework, all crafts, watching nature, playing cards and dominos, using the computer and talking to her many friends. She devoted her time to creating cards for all occasions which she proudly delivered to many friends, family and acquaintances. She loved spending time with her kitty Lola and dogs Kip and Kate. She volunteered countless hours in Florida and at the Susquehanna Community Elementary school, working in the libraries and classrooms, including the art and computer rooms. She contributed much time and effort to many local charities and causes. Dorothy lived by the motto “Live-Laugh-Love”. She believed that the secret to a long life was to “Put a smile on your face, Have a happy attitude and Have Jesus in your heart”. Her upbeat optimism, infective smile and genuine concern for others will be greatly missed. A Funeral service will be held at the North Jackson Methodist Church, in North Jackson, PA, on Wednesday, August 24th, 2011 at 11am, with Rev. James Rouse officiating. Burial will be held in the Lamb’s Cemetery, North Jackson, PA. The family will receive friends at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA, on Tuesday, August 23rd, from 7 to 9pm, and then on Wednesday, from 10 to 11am, at the North Jackson Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Jackson Methodist Church.
