Edwin Roth Sr.

Of Binghamton, NY

Edwin G. Roth Sr., of Binghamton, NY, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2026, at UHS Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, NY, at the age of 82. Born on June 27, 1944, in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

Edwin’s early years were rooted in Wilkes-Barre, where he formed the foundational values that would serve him throughout his life. He graduated from Caughlin High School, and it was in his hometown that he began his long and industrious career. After initially working at the General Cigar Company in Kingston, PA—where fate introduced him to his beloved wife, Bonnie—Edwin embarked on his long association with railroads, which would become the backbone of his professional life. Starting with the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, he later worked for Conrail and Norfolk Southern as a signal repairman, a role he dedicated himself to passionately for 38 years before retiring.

Edwin also served his nation honorably in the Army National Guard. His involvement extended to membership at the Moose Lodge 794 and the American Legion in Binghamton, NY.

Family was always at the heart of Edwin’s life. He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Roth, whose partnership and devotion spanning 58 years. Together, they raised a close-knit family who will carry his memory forward: sons Edwin Roth Jr., Eric Roth, and Aaron & Abby Roth; daughter Kathryn & Tim Thompson. Edwin’s legacy also lives on in his cherished grandchildren Brandon Charles, Alexandrea, and Dustin, as well as his great-grandchildren Chloe and Holden. He is also survived by his sister Linda Roth and several nieces.

Those who knew Edwin best knew him as an amazing father and grandfather, finding joy and fulfillment in the love and achievements of his children and grandchildren. His family remembers him as a source of wisdom, humor, and unwavering support—a cornerstone during both joyful and trying times.

In addition to his profound devotion to his family and work, Edwin was an avid enthusiast with varied interests. A giant Elvis fan, his appreciation for music was well-known, as was his passion for trains—a fascination that extended well beyond his lengthy career in the railroad industry. Edwin was also a dedicated collector of antiques, reveling in the stories and histories behind each new find.

Edwin was predeceased by his father, Oscar Roth; his mother, Kathryn Roth; and his brother, Donald Roth.

Family and friends are invited to a visitation in his honor, to be held on August 22, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Hennessey's Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave, Susquehanna, PA 18847.
