Ellen Marie Jogo

Of Deposit, NY

A lifelong resident of Deposit, NY, Ellen Marie (Eggleston) Jogo, passed away February 4, 2023 at the age of 102. Ellen was born November 3, 1920 in Deposit, the only child of John Elmer Eggleston and Maria Wilhelmina (Schwenz) Eggleston.

She graduated from Deposit High School in 1938 and thereafter attended Fredonia College for voice and piano. From 1941-42 she attended the Leland Powers School of Radio and Television in Boston, MA and in June 1942 she became an announcer on radio station WSLB in Ogdensburg, NY. It was here that she met Donald N. Jogo, a musician with a band that played on-air. On October 23, 1942 she and Don were married in Chicago, Illinois. Ellen returned to Deposit where she and Don made their home after he returned from his service in the Pacific. They had two sons, Donald “Nick” Jogo, Jr., and Peter M. Jogo.

From 1954, Ellen worked at Valley Offset Press for many years, a job she loved. She will be most remembered, perhaps, for her involvement and contributions to the Village of Deposit where she was a Board member, officer and head curator of the Deposit Historical Society and an honored member of the Rotary Club. She was an officer and musician for the Delaware County Chapter 244, Order of the Eastern Star, and was active for years in community theater. She was active and was the organist at the First Baptist Church of Deposit, for decades. She continued to be involved in reunions for Deposit High School for years and in many other community activities.

Ellen was predeceased by her parents and her husband Don and by her son Nick Jogo.

She is survived by her son, Peter of State College, PA, and by her daughter-in-law, Chris Jogo, spouse of Nick Jogo, of Endicott, NY.

Friends may call at Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 78 Second St, Deposit, NY, on February 13, 2023 at 2pm to 3pm. Interment will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at Noon at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Deposit, NY.
