Ernest C. Canfield Jr.

Harpursville, NY

It is with deep sadness that we share the death of our beloved brother, Ernest C. “Ernie” Canfield Jr., 62 of Harpursville, NY formerly of New Milford and Susquehanna, PA on Sunday, November 12, 2023.

He was predeceased by his parents Ernest and L. Judith (Sellers) Canfield, son Cole Canfield and beloved dogs Squirt and Taz.

Ernie is survived by his siblings Tammy (Todd) Heller; Lisa Canfield; Tim (Lori) Canfield; Judy (Randy) Lown; son Ryan (Andrea) Lee; stepson Zachary (Ann) Button; grandchildren Grayson and Camilla Lee; Liam and Khloe Button; Carter Canfield; family friend Mary Nabinger; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great niece and nephews, and many cousins.

Ernie worked for Weather Master in Binghamton as a roofer for 22 years, he took great pride in his job and loved what he did. He was a proud member of Roofers Local 203. Prior to being a commercial roofer, he worked as an auto mechanic, skilled quarry stone cutter, and carpentry worker.  He had the skills to repair anything mechanical to rebuilding his house from the foundation up.  His pride and joy was his Silverado truck, which was kept in immaculate condition. He enjoyed eating out and knew all the best places to recommend in the Southern Tier and surrounding areas for any cuisine choice.  Cooking was also a past time of his, he loved making his own (spicy hot) chicken wings and his homemade lasagna was award winning; he was not quick to share his secret ingredients.  Ern’s passions were hunting, fishing, and the comradery of his dogs.  After he suffered a stroke in 2015, he was taken care of by his devoted sister Lisa. He continued to look forward to family gatherings, taking rides on his 4-wheeler, going out to eat, watching movies on his DVD player and video chatting on the phone with family and friends. His grandchildren were the light of his life and to be able to spend time with them was something he cherished and looked forward to.  Special thanks to the many family and friends that took the time to call, chat, visit, take him out and assisted him to continue to do the things he loved.  Our brother’s quick wit, sense of humor and “smile/smirk” will be deeply missed.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at the American Legion Post 86, 1234 Main St. Susquehanna, PA 18847 on Saturday, November 25, 2023, from 11:00am to 2:00pm
