Ernest Richard “Ernie” Schumann Sr. Of Susquehanna, PA Ernest R. Schumann Sr. passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at the Barnes Kasson Hospital. He was born on August 20, 1931 in Morrisville, PA. and was a lifelong resident of Trenton, NJ, who moved to Susquehanna, PA in 2006 where he resided with his loving son Douglas and dog Shadow for the past seven years. Ernie was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years Joan I. (Leinheiser) Schumann; one son Richard Schumann of Yardville, NJ; and grandson Richard “Ricky” Schumann. He is survived by his four sons and one daughter-in-law, Ernest R. Schumann, Jr. and Bruce D. Schumann of Bordentown, NJ, Timothy Schumann of Burlington, NJ, Douglas J. Schumann of Susquehanna, PA, and Betsy L. Chianese-Schumann of Florence NJ; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Marg and Walt Arkus of Hamilton Twp. NJ, and Lois Anderson of Morrisville, PA; two grandsons Ernest R. Schumann, Jr., III, of Bordentown NJ, and Douglas J. Schumann, Jr. of Trenton, NJ; two granddaughters Stacy A. Schumann of Florence, NJ, and Olivia J. Schumann of Burlington, NJ; two great granddaughters and one great grandson, Alyssa L. Crusen and Peyton R. Wingerter both of Florence NJ, and Chase R. Schumann of Aston, MD; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and beloved friends. Ernie was a highly decorated US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War in the 2nd Infantry Division from 1948 to 1951. He was a member of the Local 31 Union for over 50 years, as a retired carpenter. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 86 of Susquehanna, PA. Ernie loved nature, fishing, outdoors and his beloved dog Shadow. A memorial service will be held in Susquehanna, PA at a future date.
