Frances Jean Matis Of Susquehanna, Pa. 18847 Come fly with me, let's fly, let's fly away!....On February 13, 2016 ...Frances Jean (Chickie) Matis of Susquehanna, PA sang her way into her eternal rest. Frances was born in Susquehanna, PA on March 10, 1923, the daughter of Robert and Margaret O'Connell Walker. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael J. Matis; son, Mark Matis; and brother, James Warren Walker. Surviving relatives include two sons, Joseph (Kathryn) Matis and Matt Matis both of Susquehanna and two daughters, Margaret (John) Pitsko of Nazareth, PA and Elizabeth (Terry)Tingley of Susquehanna. Frances had seven grandchildren, Julie (Dave) Beard, Ryan Pitsko, Leigh Pitsko, Michael (Liz) Matis, Regan Tingley, Jordan (Kirsten) Tingley, Ellen Matis and four great grandchildren including Maura and Evan Beard and Lilliana and Matthew Matis. Frances is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Nicknamed Chickie by her father, Frances spent her early years growing up in the South in Alexandria, LA and later, on Dartmouth St. in Winnfield, LA. Upon the sudden passing of her father, Frances and her family returned to the Susquehanna area to be close to her mother's family and friends. Frances enjoyed being home, providing a home for her elderly mother, raising five children and then babysitting for her grandchildren. In earlier years, she enjoyed walking, gardening and swimming the length of Wrighter Lake in Thompson, PA. She loved dark chocolate, good books, listening to talk radio, playing piano and song. The family would like to give special thanks to Barnes Kasson Hospital doctors and staff for their care and compassion during Frances' short illness. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. John's Church, Jackson Ave, Susquehanna, on Saturday, February 20 at 12:00 noon. The family will welcome friends before Mass at the Hennessey's Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave, Susquehanna from 11:00 -12:00. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Barnes Kasson Hospital or St. John's Church of Susquehanna, PA.
