Frances O'Rourke Miller

November 14, 1931 — August 29, 2024

Frances O’Rourke Miller

Of Susquehanna, PA

Frances was born in Coatbridge Scotland on the 14th of November 1931 to Hugh O’Rourke and Anne McCall O’Rourke. She was the fifth child of seven, five girls and two boys.

Frances’ first job was at Collins Publisher in Glasgow, but after about a year she began her nursing training at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow. Frances worked with the hospital air ambulance service which flew out to the Isles and Highlands to provide care to patients in need. When her training was complete in Glasgow, she moved to London where she completed midwifery training. Her nursing career took her around the world e.g. London, Chicago, the Canary Islands, South Africa and New York City. Her latter working years were spent in New York City and many of her family came to visit her there and she took great delight and pride in showing them the sights of the city.

In the 90’s, she met Allen Miller, and they married on the first of September 1991, here in Susquehanna, PA. Together they had many happy years. They traveled extensively to Scotland and other European countries until Allen’s death on April 25, 2022, at the home they shared in Susquehanna.

Both Frances and Allen made many friends here in Susquehanna and played an active part in the local community. Throughout her life, Frances’ faith remained strong, and she attended mass as often as she could at both St. John’s in Susquehanna, and Our Lady of Lourdes in Windsor, NY.

Frances is the last of her siblings and she has many nieces and nephews in Scotland who love and care for her. It would have been our wish that she had returned to Scotland to end her days, but that was not to be.

All her family in Scotland would like to offer our thanks to the Susquehanna Community for all the love and care they have given to Aunt Frances and Uncle Allen over the years.

A mass of Chistian burial will be held Thursday, 5th at 9am at the Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Susquehanna, PA, followed by graveside service located at Kensico Cemetery, Valhalla, NY at 1:30 pm.
