Frank “Pete” Hempstead, 85, of Deposit, NY passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at UHS Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, NY the same day as his wife of 64 years Victoria “Vicky” Hempstead.
He was predeceased by his parents George A. & Jennie (Storton) Hempstead; sister and brother-in-law Betty & Woody Wood; brother and sister-in-law Jack & Alma Hempstead; sister and brother-in-law Alice & Bill Ackerson and brother-in-law Stuart Hanna.
Pete is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Jeanne & Mark Tucker of Deposit, NY; son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey & Julia Hempstead of Deposit, NY; sister Helen Hanna of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Luke & Rachel Tucker, Cody & Jessica Tucker, Sarah & Ben Herrick, Nienna & Mark DelliCarpini, Hannah Hempstead & Thomas Topel, Susanna Hempstead & Rene’ Plevyak, Joanna & Howard Bell, Nadia Hempstead, Samuel Hempstead, Elenya Hempstead, and Daniel Hempstead; great grandchildren, Mason, Aubrie, Rylan, Lily, and Sadie Tucker, Jack, Levi, Evangeline, and Inara Herrick, Silas, Simeon, Gideon, and Elanor DelliCarpini, George, Juliette, and Louise Bell; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pete was actively involved in his community. Owner of Browns Pharmacy, Past Master and District Deputy Grand Master of the Deposit Masonic Lodge #396, Chamber of Commerce President and Deposit Development Corp. President, Head of the Deposit Watershed project, Deposit Men’s Club member, On the NYS College Council, Helped start Deposit Days which later became The Deposit Lumberjack Festival, was Deposit Rotary Club President, Loved singing with his friends in the First United Methodist Church Choir, Happy to be a member of the Buddy Buddy Construction Company, Member of The Beer Can Collectors of America Club, loved his Land Rover and his Waco bi-plane, enjoyed countless trips in their 1953 MGT and was a member of the New England MGT Register. He was a member of the Circus Fans of America and so loved going to a circus. He brought many circus shows to Deposit for all to enjoy. He was a Boy Scout leader, enjoyed singing in the Barnstormers, and loved going to his great grandsons Little League games as well as cheering on the DCS teams. He was absolutely thrilled to be at the stadium to watch the D and H Eagles win the State Championship last month.
Calling hours will be held from 10am-1pm at The First United Methodist Church on Second Street in Deposit. A Funeral Service will be held immediately following at 1pm at the church. A celebration of Pete and Vicky’s lives will be held immediately following the funeral service at The Deposit Community Park.
Interment will be held in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Deposit, NY at a later date.
