Gary A. Boughton, 52, of Susquehanna, passed away August 27, 2023, at Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono, Stroudsburg, PA after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Crosby and Ruth (French) Boughton of Susquehanna.
He is survived by his three brothers; Roger Boughton and wife Linda of Goldvein, VA; Robert Boughton and wife Linda of Owego, NY; and Daniel Boughton, Sr. and Judy Consla of Lanesboro; three nephews; Daniel Boughton Jr. and Becky Hilyer of Muncy, PA; Adam Boughton of Lanesboro; and Alex Boughton and Rachel Graham of Owego, NY; a niece Rachael Boughton and Brian Stevens of Conklin, NY; and a great niece and nephew, Evelyn and Maddox Stevens.
Gary worked as a warehouse employee through his life having worked at Barnes-Kasson Hospital, Maines Paper and Food Service in Conklin, and most recently at Foran’s Farm & Home Store in New Milford. Gary was also active in local government serving on the Oakland Borough council for 18 years to include President from 2019-2022. Gary’s unfinished project was working to restore the Oakland Park for the next generation of Little Leaguers and children.
Gary was an avid Star Wars enthusiast. He was a cosplay member of the 501st Legion and the Mandalorian Mercs that help Star Wars enthusiasts relive their favorite Star Wars characters at events like Star Wars Nights at baseball, hockey, and other games. They also visit children at children’s hospitals and attend Comic Conventions to help raise money for various charities.
Gary was a founding member of the Binghamton Fan Force, a group that brought awareness of the Star Wars fandom to the Binghamton community at large through events like Spiedie Fest, Boo at the Zoo, and Star Wars Days at the Discovery Center. He was also an active member of the GalaxyCast podcast team for over a decade giving his insight on Sci-Fi and horror genre related movies, TV shows, and of course, all things Star Wars. You can still hear his opinions today online if you listen to earlier versions of the GalaxyCast podcast (www.galaxycast.com).
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at Hennessey’s Funeral Home on October 7, 2023. Visitation will be from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Service will start at 1:00 pm. A gathering for family and friends will be held at the Lanesboro Community Center after the service.
