Gyl Fela, 80 of Jackson Township PA passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore, PA.

She was predeceased by her parents Preston & Galdys (Hammell) Smith; siblings Sherwyn D. Smith, Leland A. Smith, Durand M. Smith, Marilyn S. McPeak, June S. Stephens, Glenda R. Bidgood, Kenyon K. Smith, and Dianne S. Johansson; and sister-in-law Barbara Goemont.

Gyl is survived by her loving husband of 54 years Martin H. Fela; son and daughter-in-law Theodore P. & Amy S. Fela; grandsons Tyler J. Fela and Tanner M. Fela; sisters-in-law Jean F. Smith and Veronica Sheara; brother-in-law Richard C. Fela and John M. Fela; many loving nieces and nephews.

Gyl was born and raised in Rockaway, NJ and graduated from Morris Knolls High School.  After high school she was employed as a hairdresser for over 50 years where she accumulated several close friends and co-workers. Gyl enjoyed doing counted cross stitch and spending time on her front porch. She was also known for her love of the color purple and had a large collection of Raggedy Ann and Andy Dolls. She loved her pets especially her cat Lucy. Most important to Gyl was spending time with her loving family who miss her dearly.

The family would like to thank all Gyl’s doctors, nurses, and aides at Dunmore Hematology Oncology for their exceptional care for the past 18 years.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at 4pm at Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 1 to 4pm.

Interment will be in the St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
