Harriette R. Potter

Of Susquehanna, PA

Harriette R. Potter, 95, of Susquehanna, PA was called home to be with the Lord, Monday, November 18, 2024. She passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Harriette was born at home in Oakland, PA on May 11, 1929, the third of four children to Harry Roe and Catherine (Meyers) Roe.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Charles Roe, her sisters, Mary Roe and Helen Roe, her husband Howard W. Potter and her daughter Karen (Robert) Stone.

She is survived by her grandchildren Jessica (Joe) Burchell, Erick (Kelly) Stone, and Bradley (Desiree) Stone. She is also survived by her great grandchildren Chloe Burchell, Andrew Stone, Troy Burchell, Nate Stone, Elise Burchell and Samuel Stone; and many nieces and nephews.

Harriette graduated from Oakland High School in 1946. She married Howard Potter on January 31, 1951. Prior to giving birth to her daughter, she worked at Reddon’s Drug Store and Pharmacy in Susquehanna in the store and at the soda fountain. On March 15, 1959, Karen Elaine Potter was born. Harriette was a mother and a homemaker. She put great care into her house cleaning and making home-cooked meals for her husband and daughter. In the early 1980’s she went back to work with her husband at the newly purchased Susquehanna Home Center, finally retiring in the early 1990’s. Throughout her life she and her husband were involved as members of First Baptist Church of Susquehanna and later, North Jackson Community Church.

Harriette made her family a priority in life.  Her dedication to her loving husband was a beautiful example to her family of what it means to be a faithful wife.  Her love for her grandchildren and great-children was lived out as she made time to be present for all of their important events.  They knew they were greatly loved by her and they will miss her immensely.

The family would like to thank Barnes Kasson EMS staff, Emergency Room staff, 2nd floor nurses, cafeteria staff, and Dr. Kirk Hinkley for their wonderful care and bedside manner.  They treated Harriette like she was their own beloved grandma during her short stay. Our family would also like to say thank you to Christi and the residents of Turnpike Terrace Apartments for being such friendly neighbors and offering a hand whenever needed. We would like to offer an extra special thanks for the love and care given by Harriette’s special friends, Barb Gallagher and Lori McGowan.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, November 23, 2024 at Brushville Baptist Church, 4572 Brushville Road, Susquehanna, PA 18847. The family will receive friends at the Church 9:30-11:00am prior to the service.
