Helen Begeal, 91, of Hancock, NY passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024, at UHS Wilson Hospital, Johnson City, NY.
She was predeceased by her loving husband Bruce E. Begeal (whom she missed dearly); her parents Clifford & Shirley (Hinkley) Mallery and Stepmother Viola Mallery; daughters-in-law Tracie Begeal and Silvia Begeal; sister Joyce (Deanie) Harrington; brothers Art (Judy) Mallery and Donald Mallery; brothers-in-law Gurdon (Aleta) Begeal, Homer (Milly) Begeal, Lester (Ester) Begeal, Willard (Betty), Begeal and Grant (Phyllis) Begeal.
Helen married Bruce on May 17, 1950, and enjoyed 69 years of marriage before Bruce’s passing in 2019. Together they raised their children Sue (Daniel) Hayes, Brian Begeal, Daniel Begeal, Cathy (Jim) Griffin, and Robert (Mona) Begeal. Helen so enjoyed her grandchildren, Angela (Joe), Ian, Jesse, Andrew (Ashley), Nicole (Kyle), and Anthony; and was also blessed with great grandchildren Logan and Winter. Surviving are brothers Russel (Liz) and James Mallery; sisters Marion (Robert) Neale, Elizabeth Depuysselier, Neva Mallery and Alnetta Mallery; and many nieces and nephews.
Together Bruce and Helen took over the family dairy farm in 1950 known as Silvermist Farms. She lived a life of old-fashioned values and hard work but also found time for friends and family. Memories of getting together with neighbors, working on the farm, picnics, riding over the hill to Uncle Homer’s, collecting house plants, Sunday dinners, shopping, traveling. Helen will be dearly missed by her loving family and friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Elizabeth Church Manor Nursing Home in Binghamton, NY, and UHS Wilson Hospital staff.
A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at 1pm at Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 78 Second St. Deposit, NY.
The family will receive friends at the Funeral home on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 11am till 1pm.
Interment will be held in Hale Eddy Cemetery, Hale Eddy, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Griffin’s Guardians PO Box 1661, Cicero, NY 13039, Maple Lane Assembly of God, 1 Maple Lane, Deposit, NY 13754 or a charity of one’s choice in Helen’s name.
