James Edward Bedford

Of Susquehanna, PA

James Edward Bedford, a devoted family man and hardworking individual, passed away on April 27, 2026. Born on May 28, 1950, Jim was a cherished member of his community, remembered for his dedication and unwavering support to those around him.

Jim graduated from Susquehanna Community High School, laying the foundation for a lifetime marked by hard work and commitment. His love for the land was evident in his passion for farming; he enjoyed caring for his horses and cows and found great joy in spending time in the barn. This connection to farm life was a defining part of who he was and spoke to his steadfast character.

Professionally, Jim contributed many years of service at Fairbanks Valve Manufacturing until the company’s closure. He later applied his talents at Montrose Publishing, where he worked for numerous years, distinguishing himself as a reliable and dedicated employee.

Family was central to Jim’s life. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Barbara Brown Bedford, whose partnership was a source of strength and happiness. His children—Shawn (Kristin) Bedford of Susquehanna, Pa; Shawn (Mary) Brown of Clifford, Pa; Tracy (Kim) Mead Jr. of Forest City, Pa; Brad (Byllie Jo) Mead of Susquehanna, Pa; Lynette (Matthew) Payne of Seattle, Wa; and Angela (Roger) Millard of Lanesboro, Pa—carry forward his legacy of commitment and love. Jim also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren, brother, Timothy (Tara) Bedford of Susquehanna, Pa, and sister, Linda Pickering of Susquehanna, Pa, who remember him fondly.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, Boyd and Bernice (Stager) Bedford Jr., whose early guidance shaped his values and work ethic. He also mourned the loss of his stepdaughter, Amanda Lynn Mead; brother, Brian Bedford; and sister-in-law, Dorothy (Trausneck) Bedford. Jim was also predeceased by his loving dog Rosie, who was put to rest in January.

Known as someone who was "always there when you needed him," Jim’s dedication to family and work left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His strength, kindness, and dependability will be deeply missed.

The memory of James Edward Bedford endures in the hearts of his loved ones and all who were fortunate to know him. There will be a graveside service and interment at the Lanesboro Cemetery at a later date.
