James John Hanson Sr. 90, of Ararat Township, PA, formerly of Somerdale, NJ passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023.

He was predeceased by his parents Lawrence G. & Catharine (Milligan) Hanson; wife Joan (O’Brien) Hanson; and brother William Hanson.

James is survived by his children James Jr. Hanson (Pamela), Patricia Stewart (Jimmy), Denise Todd (Gary), Jay Hanson (Juliann); 7 grandchildren Carleigh, Alaina, James, Jonathan, Samuel, Sierra, and Alexander, and 8 great grandchildren; wife, Darlene Levai Hanson; nephews, Frank Levai (Trish), Craig Levai (Tara), Eric Levai (Jamie), Nicholas Levai (Nicole); brother Lawrence Hanson (Judith); special friends Bernie Forester and Connie Bradley; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

James was a Union Carpenter for Local 393 now 255 for 70 years until his retirement. He was instrumental in starting the apprenticeship program for South Jersey, classified as a master carpenter and also an instructor. After James and Joan retired, they fell in love with the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania and moved to Ararat Township, PA where he could enjoy the outdoors including farming, fishing, skiing, and nature. Most important to James was spending time with his loving family who will miss him dearly.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses at DaVita Dialysis Clinic Enynon, PA, for their compassion and care and the Trehab bus drivers.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at 11am at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Jackson, PA.

The family will receive friends at the Church on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, from 10am till 11am.

Interment will be in the St. Paul’s Cemetery, Starrucca, PA.
