James Gordon Sickles

Of Susquehanna, PA

James “Jim” Gordon Sickles, 73, of Susquehanna, passed away on October 2, 2023, with his loving wife, Roberta, at his side.

He was predeceased by his parents, Peter and Myrtle Sickles, his late wife, Assunta “Sue” Sickles, and his mother-in-law, Mary Jane Reddon.

He is survived by a large and loving family: his wife, Roberta, and their children, Dan and Christie Kelly and Tom (TJ) Kelly; grandchildren, Patrick, and Owen; siblings, Clark Sickles, William Sickles, and Kathy O’Donnell; nieces and nephews, Staci and Chris Garibaldi and their daughter Sofia and Jessica Sickles and her son Jason Rivera and godson Ryan Todd and wife Kristen and their son Dillion and daughter Callie Rose.

Jim was born in Orange, NJ and was raised in West Orange, NJ. After High School Jim pursued a career in law enforcement as an Officer for the State of New Jersey’s Department of Corrections and also served as the Deputy Chief of Union County Correctional Services. During his tenure he received many awards and was instrumental as a union leader in establishing solidarity among members. Jim was very passionate about his politics. After his accomplished career, Jim retired to Harmony Township, Susquehanna, Pa. It is here that he was able to fully embrace his passion for the outdoors as a avid hunter, a crafty fisherman and an ‘adequate’ yet fun golfer. He was a lifetime member of the Canawacta Rod and Gun Club. Many friendships were forged as people were drawn to his zest for life and out-going personality. Then, to complete his already full life, he wooed and married his love, Roberta. He soon learned it was a package deal with Mary Jane in tow for many dining excursions. As an accomplished chef, he often set the table for three, a generous and welcoming man. He will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for their compassion and care.
