James Frederick Stone

James Frederick Stone, of West Jefferson NC, passed away peacefully at home on June 10, 2023.

Jim was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Helen Stone of North Jackson, PA, sister-in-law Karen Stone, brother-in-law Phillip Weston and sister-in-law Marylinn Weston.

Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Weston Stone and two sons - Jeffrey and former wife Jennifer, and Lucas and wife, Emillie. He dearly loved his grandchildren Avery, Whitfield, Cecilia, Oliver and Weston.

Also surviving are four brothers and their families, Jack and Patti Stone, Robert and Betty Stone, Gary and Barb Stone and Roger and Laura Stone. Jim also enjoyed a loving relationship with brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Alice Weston, David Weston, Daniel and Cathy Weston and George and Terry Weston, as well as many nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

After graduating from Blue Ridge High School in 1971, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Rota, Spain and Charleston, SC. He then worked for 32 years for Vail-Ballou Mfg in Kirkwood NY and then moved to NC where he was employed at Cape Lookout National Seashore until his retirement. Jim enjoyed nature - especially fishing and hunting and taught these skills to his sons as well as his grandchildren whenever possible. Sometimes he just enjoyed a quiet chat with a grandchild beside him or on his lap. Jim loved his large family of brothers, cousins, Aunts and Uncles, parents and grandparents and spoke often of precious memories over his young years.

A memorial service will take place July 8, 2023 at North Jackson Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 10:30 am to noon with a service at the church at noon. Interment at Ararat Cemetery will take place directly after the service.
