Jean Durning was born in Queens, New York, the 3rd of 5 children to Edwin and Anna Bryant.

She married Robert Gray Durning in January of 1955. They raised 6 children in Levittown, New York and then Jean moved to the Village of Deposit, New York in 1996 after her husband’s death in 1985.

Jean worked in the schools and colleges in the Levittown area and served as a secretary. She was the President of the PTA while her children were in elementary school.  She was a caring wife and mother. Her hobbies included sewing, painting and baking. She loved gardening and grew beautiful flowers.

She was predeceased by her parents, Edwin and Anna, her brother Edwin Bryant, her husband Robert Gray Durning and her daughter in law, Katryn Durning.

She is survived by her 3 sisters; Ann Gratta, Nancy Gratta (Fred) and Rita Maasch (Fred), 6 children; Ellen Barreto (Fred), Robert Durning, James Durning (Joyce), Thomas Durning (Nancy), John Durning (Patricia) and Danny Durning, 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Interment will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 9:00am in Calverton National Cemetery, 210 Princeton Boulevard, Calverton, NY 11933.
