Joan Patricia (Cowperthwait) Arthur passed away at the age of 89 on June 9, 2024, in her hometown of Susquehanna, PA with her family by her side.

Joan was born on August 27, 1934, to Cyril and Mildred (Jones) Cowperthwait. She graduated from Windsor High School and devoted her life to caring for her family and the community. She held various jobs, her most favorite of which were driving senior citizens through County Transportation and school buses for the Susquehanna Community School District.

Joan enjoyed fishing, gardening, and bowling. She was a fierce competitor in card games, loved playing the lottery, and was an amazing baker. She made the best apple pies and her “brown buffs” were always in high demand.

Joan was predeceased by her loving husband Wayne Arthur to whom she was married for 69 years; daughter, Denise Murphy; infant son Richard; brother, Gary Cowperthwait; and brothers-in law, Warrick (Bert) Arthur, Charles (Sharon) Arthur, and Lloyd Colpitts.

Joan is survived by her sister, Marion Colpitts; devoted daughter, Debbie and son-in law, Donnie Norris who cared for her with compassion and grace over the past three years; son, Donald (Frances) Arthur, 7 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held at Hennessey’s Funeral Home, Inc., 747 Jackson Avenue, Susquehanna, PA on June 21, 2024, from 1pm to 3pm and will be followed by a Memorial Service at 3pm.  Friends and family members are invited to attend.

Interment will be held in the Lanesboro Cemetery, Lanesboro, PA.
