John “Buddy” Brown

Of Susquehanna, PA

John “Buddy” Brown passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. He was born to the late John E. Brown and Margaret (Stroh) Brown on July 13, 1940 in Susquehanna, PA.

He is predeceased by sisters Ann Hinkley, Margaret Burdick, and brother Billy Brown; grandson baby boy Janicelli.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mary (Washburn) Brown; children Lori Pike (Kevin) of Port Crane, NY, Shelly Brown-Janicelli of New Milford, PA, John M. Brown of Kirkwood, NY; grandchildren Abigail Brown, Zachary Pike, Paul Janicelli, Brendan Pike, Jocelyn (Moss) Brown, Johnny Lee Brown; sister Marilyn Wanatt; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Buddy graduated from Laurel Hill Academy Class of 1959 in Susquehanna, PA. He then joined the Navy serving for two years and was based in Pensacola, FL. He worked as a machinist for many years and retired from Rotorcast. He held many side businesses including real estate, and Brown’s Hobby Shop. He served as a councilman for Oakland Borough for 32 years. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, watching NASCAR races on television, camping with his family, spending time with his children and grandchildren who he was very proud of. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church as well as the St. John’s Men’s Club where he served as treasurer. He was known for always offering to help anyone who needed it.

There will be a Funeral Service on Monday, August 21, 2023 at 11:00am at St. John’s Church, 15 East Church St. Susquehanna, PA 18847.

Burial will be in the St. John's Cemetery in Susquehanna, PA.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 21, 2023 from 9:00am to 11:00am at Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA 18847.

A luncheon to follow services at St. John's Parish Hall.
