John J. Callanan

John Callanan, 97, passed away Monday, December 16, 2024. John was predeceased by his mother and father Helen & Joseph Callanan and his wife Carmela. He was also predeceased by his brother Francis Callanan and sister Marie Osterhout. He is survived by his twin sister Jean Mazikewich and several nieces and nephews.

John was a graduate of Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA. He was a Veteran of World War II. John serviced in the US Navy in the Asian-Pacific Theater of the war. John attended Harpur College and majored in business. He spent his work years at IBM Endicott in the business department. During his retirement years John enjoyed golfing with friends, attending family gathers and dining at his favorite restaurant Cortese. John spent the last decade of his life as a resident of United Methodist Homes. He made many friends there and greatly appreciated the care he received from the staff. The family of John is also thankful for the care he received during his final days at Barnes Kasson SNF from the staff and Dr. B. Patel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. John’s Church in Susquehanna, PA, on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at 10:30am.

Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Susquehanna, PA.

The family will receive friends at Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA on Thursday, December 19, 2024, from 9am to 10am.
