John M. Hartman, 80, of Harford, PA passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Forest City Nursing Home.
Born on October 14, 1943, in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Edward & Evelyn (Smith) Hartman.
He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Eileen Hartman; sister Katherine Snellbaker; & brother Joseph Hartman.
John is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Lisa Marie & James Jumper; sons and daughters-in-law Michael & Tracy Hartman, Shawn Hartman, Matthew & Kathleen Hartman; grandchildren Josh and Joseph Jumper; MacKenzie and Cade Hartman; Noah, Hunter, and Avery Hartman; brothers and sisters-in-lawEdward Hartman (Genny Embelton) and Leonard & Judy Hartman, Patricia Bogle, Linda Hartman, and Roberta Collins; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He is also survived by Katherine Kempa, his loving companion of the last 11 years, who has stood by his side.
John was raised in Philadelphia, PA and graduated from Father Judge High School in Northeast Philadelphia. After marrying Eileen in 1964, they bought a home in Levittown, Pennsylvania to raise a family. John worked for the Bucks County Courier Times as a computer programmer. After approximately 10 years living in Levittown, John and Eileen moved their family to Harford, Pennsylvania. John worked at several jobs for a few years until the flight simulation company Singer Link hired him in 1983 as a computer programmer. He spent 25 years at Singer where he eventually gained status as a programming engineer prior to his retirement.
John enjoyed playing basketball, baseball and golf in his early years and would eventually attend many of his children’s sporting events as well as his grandchildren’s. He also enjoyed watching football, particularly Penn State and the Philadelphia Eagles.
A stern German father with a big heart and a listening ear, John was always willing to give advice and a helping hand. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, November 27, 2023, at 11am at St. Martin of Tours Church in Jackson, PA.
The family will receive at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA, on Sunday, November 26, 2023, from 3 to 5pm.
Interment will be held in the Gibson Cemetery, Gibson, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harford Fire Department, 142 Fair Hill Rd. Harford, PA 18823.
