Joseph Edward Hawkins, 85 a lifelong son of Thompson, PA, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, at Geisinger CMC in Scranton, PA. He was born on February 9, 1941, in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.

Joseph was a proud graduate of Susquehanna Community High School. He began his career working diligently on his family farm, establishing a deep-rooted connection to the land. Later, as a coast-to-coast truck driver for many years, Joseph traversed the highways of America, dedicated to his work and providing for those he loved. His tireless spirit and reliable nature made him a trusted friend and colleague to many.

An avid outdoorsman, Joseph had a true passion for hunting and fishing. Whether in the woods or beside the water, Joseph found peace and pleasure in nature’s embrace.

Joseph’s creativity and skill were evident in every project he undertook. A great carpenter, he possessed the rare ability to fix anything, and it was said that there was little he could not repair or improve with his hands. He was very creative, making several beautiful items for his family over the years—each piece standing as a testament to his love, ingenuity, and dedication. These gifts will remain treasured reminders of his resourcefulness and generosity.

Joseph is survived by his devoted companion, Paula Ralston; his son and daughter-in-law, Billy Joe & Carol Hawkins; his stepchildren, Chrissy Spoor, and Ernie Smith Jr. and their families.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Bessie (Reynolds) Hawkins; his siblings, Charles Hawkins, Bernice Meade, Clara Cicak, Edna Macumber, and Neva Phillips.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 9th, 2026, at 11am at Thompson Christian Church, 586 Main St. Thompson, PA, 18654.

The family will receive friends at the Church on Thursday, July 9th, 2026, from 10am until 11am.
