Karen Potter Stone of Susquehanna, PA Karen Potter Stone, 61, of Susquehanna, PA passed away at home surrounded by her loving family following a four-year battle with Lyme disease and ALS. She was born March 15, 1959 in Susquehanna, PA to Harriette R. and the late Howard W. Potter, Oakland, PA. Karen was a graduate of Susquehanna Community High School class of 1977. She then went on to graduate from Robert Packer School of Nursing in 1980 and earned a Bachelor's of Science degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1981. During her career as a Registered Nurse, Karen worked as a Home Health Nurse, in the Recovery Room at Barnes Kasson Hospital, and in the Nurse’s Office at Susquehanna Community Elementary School. However, most recently she worked as the Bookkeeper at her family’s former business, Susquehanna Home Center. She is predeceased by her two aunts, Mary Roe and Helen Roe, who were like sisters to her, as well as by her father Howard W. Potter. Karen is survived by her husband, Bob (Robert) of nearly 41 years. She is also survived by Jessica (daughter) and Joseph Burchell and their three children, Chloe, Troy and Elise; Erick (son) and Kelly Stone and their three children, Andrew, Nathan, and Samuel; Bradley (son) and Desiree Stone; and her mother, Harriette R. Potter. Karen is remembered for her avid love of horses. She had horses growing up and enjoyed competing in horse shows even into her adult life. She could often be found at a horse show, horse auction, or team penning. She enjoyed chatting about her love of horses with anyone that was willing to listen or shared her interest. She even managed to pass along her love for horses to a few of the grandchildren and had joy in watching them learn to ride. While traveling far from home was not something she was able to do often, Karen also loved to go for rides on local country roads or take day trips to beautiful places in NY or PA. She made her family a priority. In earlier years, she regularly drove her children to music lessons or sports practices, all the while making sure there was a home cooked meal ready for the family to have dinner together each evening. Karen, along with Bob, made sure that they were always in a Bible-believing and preaching church so that their family could learn about their faith in Jesus that was so important to them. When grandchildren came along, she babysat some of them until they were of school age and enjoyed spending any time she could with all of her grandchildren. Karen’s family would like to thank the many people that prayed, made meals, sent cards, or stopped in for a visit throughout the years of Karen’s illness. The care and relationships with therapists and nurses through Interim Health Care, as well as the Hospice even though brief, brought great support as Bob selflessly cared for his beloved wife Karen at home. A Memorial Service, Visitation, and Internment (Ararat Cemetery, Ararat PA) will be held at a later date when restrictions have been lifted due to current public health concerns. An announcement will be published. Those wishing to make a memorial contribution in place of flowers may send a donation in her name to the ALS Association, 321 Norristown Road Suite 260, Ambler PA 19002 or Brushville Baptist Church, 4572 Brushville Road, Susquehanna PA 18847.
