Laurence Ray Cable
Of Deposit, NY
Laurence “Larry” Ray Cable, of Deposit, NY passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. He was predeceased by his parents Laurence & Mary (Scott) Cable; and two sons Matthew and Daniel Cable.
Laurence was born February 15, 1949 to Mary and Laurence Cable at Deposit Hospital as the youngest of two children. Among other places in the community, he grew up on Silver Lake where he enjoyed waterskiing and go-cart racing. He was an accomplished athlete, earning distinctions in football, basketball and track by which he acquired the nickname “Lightning.” After graduating from DCS in 1967, he studied at Defiance College in Ohio before going on to work for the New York State Department of Transportation as a surveyor until his retirement in 2002. In 1980, he was set up on a blind date with Kathleen Reilly, a teacher at Chenango Valley High School and the pair married three months later, bringing together their two families. He was a skilled carpenter and builder and finished their family home on Beebe Hill Road, a place where he spent many happy years. The man could fix anything. Whatever project he undertook, he accomplished it with facility and ease, coupled with his characteristic humbleness. He loved music and playing the guitar and could often be found in his recliner listening to concerts on AXS TV. Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton and Tom Petty were but a few favorites. While he was a quiet man, he was always there to listen or lend a hand to anyone he knew and will be remembered for his enormous heart and generosity of spirit. He was a devoted and doting father, grandfather and uncle and loved attending his children’s sporting events. He was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Deposit where his mother had been a deacon, and where he served on the vestry committee. He also loved going to breakfast at the Circle E Diner with his friend Calvin, something that he did often. His family loved him beyond measure.
Laurence is survived by his loving wife of 42 years Kathleen (Horkott) Cable; daughter Catherine Cable; sister Betsy Griffin Forkey (Bryan); sister-in-law Patricia Parisi; daughter-in-law Sara & Joe D’Elia; grandchildren Bailey Cable Antidormi (Peter), Gabriel, Joseph, and Jake D’Elia; great grandchildren Ronin and Lyra Antidormi; nephews Scott and Sandy Griffin, and George and Michael Parisi; nieces Jennifer and Brandi Parisi; his beloved hound Abbie, and many great friends and cousins.
