Leon Angell
Of Deposit, NY
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Leon Angell on July 10, 2026. His loving wife Liz, who cared for him to the very end, was at his side as he transitioned to a better place.
Leon was born September 11, 1953 to Roger and Catherine (Meyer) Angell. He lived most of his life in Deposit and attended Deposit Central School.
Leon leaves behind his wife Elizabeth (Nixon), son Lucas, step-children Tim Campbell, Melissa (Greg) Richmond, Gerald Campbell (Abigail Moore), Nicholas (Krisy) Cote, Catrina Cote, his siblings Linda (Gordon) Smith, Cindy Vigus, Tom (Nancy), Tim, Larry (Renia), half-sister Sally Hendricks, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Leon was predeceased by his parents, brothers Ron and Daryl, sister Rebecca, half-brother Bill, brothers-in-law Bill and Rudy and nephew Christopher.
Leon was a skilled carpenter who partnered for many years with his brothers and other family members, including his step-son Gerald, building homes, resorts and a large apartment complex at Tennanah Lake. He often did the design work on projects. Leon was also part of the major renovation of the historic Chestnut Lodge, bringing it back to life. In all his endeavors Leon made sure he was honest and fair. He focused on detail and quality in all his work.
Over the years Leon passed his knowledge onto many up- and- coming carpenters interested in honing their own abilities. He never hesitated to use his know-how to help others with their home improvement projects. His handy-work will live on as a reminder of his selfless giving to his family and friends
Leon was an animal lover. Stray cats were always welcome at his back door. He and Liz always made sure they were well-fed and had a warm place to shelter in the winter. He adopted rescue dogs that no one else wanted. He took in his latest dog, Oliver, after the owner passed away. Liz will carry on that love.
We will gather to celebrate Leon on Saturday July 18th at 1pm at the American Legion 44 4th St. Deposit, NY 13754.
