Lloyd Spillane July 5, 1930 – September 15, 2017 Lloyd John Spillane, age 87, passed away surrounded by family on Friday September 15, 2017 while in hospice. Son of Bill and Alice (Donnelly) Spillane, he was born on July 5th, 1930 in Newark, NJ. Lloyd grew up in Harrison, graduating from High School in 1949. Following graduation, Lloyd joined the Navy on his 19th birthday and served for 4 years as a diver and on a munitions ship during the Korean War. He married Dorothy Adams in 1953. Together, they had 3 children. He is survived by his long time beloved companion, Valerie; daughters, Debra (sp. Peter), Diane, Denise (sp. Steve); 5 grandchildren, Dyane, David, Michael, Brian, Devyn; a great grandson, Justyn; his sister-in-law Patricia Spillane and many nieces, nephews. Lloyd’s brother, William, preceded him in death. In retirement, he worked on his property in Susquehanna PA, building ponds, massive stone walls and clearing brush. Always a patriot, many remember with fondness the incredible flag day gatherings and 4th of July celebrations. Whether you knew him as Dad, Lift’n Lloyd, Big Whitey, Lloyd, or grandpa, he was a bigger than life kind of man. He loved regaling stories from his navy days, experiences playing and coaching football and his career as an operating engineer. He held “court” with his grandchildren (and their friends) imparting his wisdom as they listened intently. He loved his career as an Operating Engineer and was a long-time member of Local 825. He devoted many years volunteering to help construct Elks Camp Moore for handicapped children. He was always willing to lend a hand and help a neighbor. Lloyd was a devote Roman Catholic and a longtime member of the Elks Harrison East Newark Lodge 2326 where he served a term as the Exalted Ruler. Later, as member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Susquehanna, he was an active member of the men’s club for many years. His humor, compassion and presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A funeral mass will be offer by Rev. David Cramer on Tuesday September 19th, 2017 at 10:00AM at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church, 15 E. Church St., Susquehanna, PA. The family will greet friends at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, Pa on Tuesday from 9:00 am until the time of service. “Children are the only form of immortality that we can be sure of.”- Peter Ustinov
