Mabel Ann Sheldon

Mabel Ann Sheldon Of Susquehanna, PA   Mabel Ann Sheldon, 94, went to be with her Lord on Friday, November 9, 2018.  She had resided at her daughter and son-in-law’s home for the past 7 years due to declining health.   Mabel A. Sheldon was born in Gelatt, PA on August 30, 1924 to the late Fred L. and Pearl U. Williams.  She graduated from Thompson High School and was then employed as a secretary for Spencer’s Feed Mill in Thompson, PA for 2 years.  She was married to Carl C. Sheldon in 1944 and worked side by side with him on the family farm near Susquehanna, PA until his death in 1965.  After his passing, she and her son Richard ran the farm for many years.  Mabel believed in the Bible and strove to follow the Lord in every part of her life.  Her life was a testimony to many who knew her.  She was known for her strong work ethic and resilient, determined attitude.   She made butter and cottage cheese as well as many baked goods.  She had a big garden and enjoyed sharing all the vegetables with her family.  She sewed and crocheted and made many beloved items for both family and friends.  One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren; they have many fond memories of hikes to pick huckleberries, going fishing and swimming in the creek.  In more recent years, she liked playing dominoes, doing puzzles, reading, taking scenic rides and eating ice cream.   Mabel was very devoted to her church family, sang in the choir and played cornet for many years.  She was church treasurer for 27 years, taught in Awana Chums for over 17 years and was Sunday school superintendent for the children’s group for 35 years.  In addition to her church activities, she was secretary for North Jackson cemetery for 60 years and treasurer for 39 of those years.  She was also an auditor in Thompson Township for over 30 years.   In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Rose A. Brown and her brother Fred H. Williams.    Mabel is also survived by her son Richard (Fran) Sheldon, Susquehanna, PA and her daughter Carol (John) Ross, Ulster, PA, her grandchildren; John L. Sheldon. Cheryll S. (James) Feuerstein, Robert J. (Sarah) Sheldon, Sarah M. Ross, Mark H. Ross, John C. (Amanda) Ross, and Rachel R. (Scott) Hauser.  She had 7 great grandchildren (Cassidy, Katy, Addy, Ryker, Faith, David, Molly) and many nieces and nephews.   The family would like to thank the ladies at Martha Lloyd Senior Center in Troy, PA and Guthrie Hospice for their care.  We especially wish to thank Violet Young for her kindness, wonderful care, and patience over the last few years.   A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at 11:30am at the South New Milford Baptist Church, New Milford, PA, with Pastor Fred Johnson, Pastor Donn Hauser and Pastor Ray Mitchell officiating.   Interment will be in the North Jackson Cemetery, North Jackson, PA.   The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 13, 2018, at the South New Milford Baptist Church, New Milford, PA from 10:00am – 11:30am.
