Margureite E. Price

April 23, 1926 — July 25, 2022

Margureite Price

Of Lanesboro, PA

Margureite Estelle (Welch) Price, 96, of Lanesboro passed away peacefully at home on Monday, July 25, 2022.  She is predeceased by her sons Gary and Gerald, daughter Christine (A.J.), husband James, parents Sylvester & Louise, siblings Charles, Catherine, Alvin, Rashaw, Delos, Beatrice, Irving, Walt, & Jamie, and great-grandson Jacob.

Margureite is survived by her son Richard (Sandy), daughter-in-law Judy, sister Penny, grandchildren Mary Ann, Jim (Nancy), John, Shannon, Richard Jr. (Janelle), Stephanie (Fruquan), Steven, and Jessica (Zachary), 20 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Margureite was born on April 23, 1926 at home in Melrose.  She grew up during the great depression, learning to live frugal, recycle, and stretch everything she used.  She was a “collector” of everything-especially yarn. Margureite married James Price on May 19, 1944.  She was a hard worker, sometimes working two jobs and doing all the overtime she could.  She babysat for many families in the evenings and on weekends, worked at the silkmill in Susquehanna, Matis’ Manufacturing, Kroehler’s, and Grosset & Dunlap/Putnam Publishing.  She started at Grosset & Dunlap when they opened, was their first employee of the month, and retired from there at the age of 83, when her feet were too sore for her to continue.

Margureite’s special talent and favorite hobby was crocheting.  Her friends and family lovingly knew her as the “happy hooker.”  If you knew Margureite, you probably have something she made-table décor (using McDonalds sundae cups), a toilet paper cover, hand towels, peter warmer, spoon doll, or a beautiful afghan (raised flowers were her specialty).  She was also an avid, entertaining story-teller.  The more you got into the story and laughed, the bigger and more colorful it got.  Margureite was not afraid to play with her grandkids (barbie dolls, sleigh riding, or making up games); she brought the fun with her wherever she went-sharing a beer, and/or dancing to the music when the mood suited her.

To her kids, their friends, and her coworkers, she was known as Ma; her grandkids called her Gram, her great-grandkids called her Grammy.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

Her family would like to thank Dr. Schell for his care for the past year and Revolutionary Home Health and Hospice, especially her nurse Linda, for her support and assistance to provide the most comfortable last week for Margureite.

In accordance with her wishes, a private burial for family will be held.
