Mary Roberta “Bert” Welch

Mary Roberta “Bert” Welch, former resident of Conklin, NY met with her Lord on September 26, 2026, while a resident of Barnes Kasson Hospital Skill Nursing Facility, Susquehanna, PA.

She was born and raised in Susquehanna, PA. She was known as “Bert” or “Berta” to her family and friends. For forty-two years, she was a faithful and dedicated employee of New York State Electric & Gas (NYSEG), in Binghamton, Ithaca, and Vestal, NY.

Upon retirement Bert enjoyed the Conklin Senior Club, partaking in their trips to various places of interest and Casinos. She traveled with her life partner, Harvey, abroad to Hawaii, Spain, and many other countries.

Her residency at Barnes Kasson SNF gave her the opportunity to reconnect with Susquehanna area residents and participate in their various activities, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. She led the “SNF Exercise Class 1”. Bert always loved nature and especially “dogs”. Her four-legged friend “Jake” was never far behind.

Mary Roberta was predeceased by her parents Robert C. and Mary E. (Bayless) Welch; life partner Harvey Colony; sisters H. Patricia “Pat” Barnes, Joan Ksenich, Sheila Hamby, Michele Lankford; and brother Gerald “Jerry” Welch.

She is survived by one brother Robert F. Welch, and brother-in-law Gary Lankford; two sisters Peggy (David) Soden, Starrucca, PA, and Connie Gawron, of Susquehanna, PA; and her former sister-in-law Mary Salazar.

Mary Robert has many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, that she watched grow up and loved being involved with all their lives, accomplishments and activities.

The family wants to give thanks to all the Barnes Kasson Hospital and SNF staff for the kind, compassionate, and patient care for “Bert”. A very special thank you to Dr. Bhupendra Patel for his exceptional care to Bert and support to her family.

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 11am at Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 10am till 11am.

Interment will be held in Uniondale Cemetery at a later date.
