Michael Holleran Of New Milford, PA Michael “Mick” Holleran, age 80, passed away suddenly on January 21, 2021 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley hospital in Wilkes-Barre, after a brief (non-Covid) illness. Born on March 3, 1940, Mick grew up in Hallstead and would often recall the old places now gone, such as the movie theater and “soda shop” that used to be there. He lived most of the remainder of his life in New Milford township, and for many years he enjoyed riding his bicycle into town, especially to watch the Blue Ridge Little League “Bears” play baseball, which he assisted in coaching and working with the team. For a short time, Mick also resided at the Harford Village Apartments, where he made many friends whom he spoke about, and whose interactions and kindnesses were so enjoyed and much appreciated. Mick had a lifetime love of all things Elvis, and was especially happy to have visited Graceland in Memphis, and Nashville, with family members in 2014. He often carried some of his collection of Elvis books or movies with him to family gatherings to share. Mick loved all 50’s and 60’s music, and after Elvis, also enjoyed Buddy Holly, the Beatles, and many others. He actively followed current news and politics, and was always on top of the day’s events. He loved sports, and enthusiastically followed his favorite teams: the NY Giants and the formerly Brooklyn Dodgers. He was a walking encyclopedia of sports statistics, especially in NFL football and MLB baseball, able to recall such facts as not only who batted the “shot heard round the world”, but who was on deck, AND the date it happened! He was also an avid WWE wrestling fan. Mick loved playing cards, such as solitaire, and games with family members (at which he cheated!). He loved movies, watching and recording them, and sharing with others. He enjoyed mowing the lawn on his riding tractor, and keeping his garage clean and organized. He also enjoyed shooting a game of pool. Mick was definitely a people person, enjoying everyone with whom he had the pleasure of making an acquaintance, eager to converse and share stories with, and retaining those friendships. He cherished his long-time friendship with his caring and loyal friend, James Yeich. Mick leaves behind his beloved dog and companion, Peggy Sue. Mick will be greatly missed by his family and many friends, who will always remember him for his kindness and generosity, his sense of humor, his great taste in music, and his excellent and thoughtful Christmas presents. He was of the Roman Catholic faith. Mick liked keeping track of his expanding family tree, and was insistent about recording relative’s names, all of whom he was so proud. He is survived by his sister Karen Higgins, and his brother and sister-in-law, Thomas & Catherine Holleran; nieces and nephews Chris Tracy & Cathy, Larry Tracy & Kelly, Skip Tracy, Michael Fitzsimmons & Audrey, Ryan Higgins & Angie, Kaylee Florey & Stephen, Megan Holleran, Casey Holleran & Amanda, Brendan Holleran & Carly, Jameson Holleran, 16 grand-nieces and nephews, and several cousins. He is predeceased by his sister, Marjorie Tracy, and his parents Gordon & Catherine (Whitney) Holleran. Interment will be in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in New Milford. Due to current circumstances there will be no visitation or services at this time. A memorial may be planned when we can all gather safely. In lieu of flowers or gifts, a charitable donation may be made in his memory, to the Blue Ridge Little League, P.O. Box 723, Great Bend, PA 18821. As Mick always ended all of his voice-mail messages, “This is Mick. Over and out.”
