Norman Wesley Chapman, 92, of Deposit, NY, passed away on January 17, 2023 at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford, NY.

He was the son of the late Ferdinand and Leatha (Johnson) Chapman. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years Shirley (Butts) Chapman; son, James Wesley Chapman and brother Bernard Chapman

Norman is survived by his children Katharine A. & Daniel Kleeschulte, of Unadilla, NY, Ann M. & Michael D’Agati, of Deposit, NY and Marilyn M. Smith and companion Mike Conklin of Walton, NY; grandchildren Courtney & Zachary Kleeschulte, Daniel Kleeschulte, Kegan Kleeschulte, Derek Kleeschulte, Curtis & Cierra D’Agati, Kasandra & Tom Blaho and Camren & Jessica Smith; great grandsons Greyson and Graham D’Agati, and Noah Smith; sisters in law Mona Chapman and Joyce Butts; cousin Betty Gallagher many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Norman attended Binghamton Central School. He served in the United States Marine Corp from 1951-1954.  Following his time in the service Norman returned to Binghamton and went to work at Endicott Johnson where he met his wife Shirley whom he married after 6 months on July 13, 1958. Norman retired from Village of Deposit DPW after 24 years of service. From 2004 to 2017 he was in charge of Broome Co. recycling bins until he retired and also was a cooperative observer for the National Weather Service for 25 years. He was a member of the Deposit Fire Department and Deposit Fire Police for over 30 years. Norman loved Deposit “His Home” but after health issues lived in Unadilla with his daughter Katharine and then Ross Home for Adults in Maryland, NY.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at Noon at Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 78 Second St. Deposit, NY.

Interment will be held in the Laurel Hill Cemetery, Deposit, NY.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Saturday, January 28, 2023 from 10am till Noon.

Following the Services, a Luncheon will be held at First United Methodist Church of Deposit on 109 Second St. Deposit, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Deposit Fire Department 61 Front St. Deposit, NY, NYS Veterans Home at Oxford, 4207 State Highway 220, Oxford, NY 138304, or a charity of one’s choice.
