Randall Lee Cornwell
Of Deposit, NY
Randall (Randy) Cornwell, of Deposit, New York, passed away peacefully at home on August 3, 2026, at the age of 73. Born on January 30, 1953, in Deposit, Randy was son of the late Juan and Doris Cornwell. He grew up in Deposit, where he graduated from Deposit Central High School.
After finishing school, Randy began a job with local company, Celotex where he enjoyed many memorable years. He eventually transitioned into auto mechanics, holding several jobs in that field throughout his career. His technical abilities, reliability, and honesty earned him the trust and gratitude of many in Deposit and beyond. Later, he brought his strong work ethic and sense of responsibility to the Deposit Schools, where he first served as a mechanic and then transportation supervisor for a total of 25 years until his well-earned retirement.
Randy’s life was characterized by a deep love for the outdoors. An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in hunting, fishing, and trapping—pursuits he often shared with friends and family. He gave back to his community as a hunter safety course instructor, imparting his respect for nature and safe practices to the next generation. Randy’s knowledge and passion also found an outlet in his membership at the McCabe Hollow Sportsman Club, where he enjoyed camaraderie. He delighted in collecting coins, a hobby that reflected his appreciation for history and detail. He was also a certified scuba diver for many years, combining his love of the water with metal detecting as he searched for coins and other hidden treasures.
Randy will be remembered for his quiet yet steady presence as he drove through town many times each day, his love of nature and the practical kindness he showed to those around him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Leslie (Spence) Cornwell; their son Kenny Cornwell; stepchildren: Dan, Scott, Steven, and Beth; his former wife, Bonnie and their children: Mark (Chris) Cornwell, Lisa (Steve) O'Connell, Scott (Amy) Cornwell; grandchildren—Alex, Ben, Craig, Marlin, Mason, and Bella; several step grandchildren; brother David Cornwell and wife Ilona, sisters-in-law Barb Reis and her husband Bill; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
