Rita Joyner Zacharias 75, of Deposit NY passed way Tuesday March 26th, 2024, at her home.

Rita was Born June 24th, 1948, to the late Andrew and Frances Joyner of Binghamton NY.

Rita was the youngest of 5 children. She grew up on Pierce Street and Graduated from Binghamton North High School. Rita’s life took her down many paths which ultimately led her to her beloved Deposit NY in 1974 when she and her then husband Rick Zacharias purchased Zacharias Funeral home. After parting ways with Rick and the Funeral home Rita spent many years working at the Deposit Great American. After the Great American closed, she would spend her remaining career at the Deposit Big M. She often expressed how the Big M was the hub of the town and how much she loved working for the Finch family, the friends that she made there and the customers that she got to interact with every day. She would offer strangers a kind smile and anyone she knows a friendly hello.

Rita will be remembered for her kindness and her good heart. The family asks in her memory, the next time you make eye contact with a stranger, give them a smile. When you see a familiar face extend them a hello. Look for the good in one another and demonstrate random acts of kindness and try to make the world a better place, if even only for a moment.

Rita is predeceased by her Father; Andrew Joyner (1972), Mother; Frances Joyner (1997), Brother; Frederick Joyner (1981), Sister; Anne Joyner (1989). She is survived by her Loving Fiancé Wilbur (Stub) Nichols of Sidney Center and his 2 sons Eric (Cara) Nicols of Ithaca, Mike Nicols of Schenectady, Sister; Janet Joyner McNair Miller of Syracuse, Brother; Bob (Jackie) Joyner of West Windsor, many nieces, nephews, great nephews, great nieces and even a great great nephew.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at 1pm at Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 78 Second St. Deposit, NY.

The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 11am till 1pm.

Interment will in Vestal Hills Memorial Park, Vestal, NY, on Monday, April 8, 2024, at 11am.
