Robert J. Burns Of Susquehanna, PA Robert J. Burns, 84, of Susquehanna, PA entered into eternal rest on Thursday, February 18, 2021 at his home. He was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Lillian; loving wife Ann Janet (Petroski) Burns; daughter Susan Burns McFadden; and sisters Shirley and Sally Burns. Bob was survived by his son and daughter-in-law Robert & Lori Burns; granddaughter Rachael (Burns) Kellar and husband Jon; son-in-law Brian McFadden as well as dearest friend and lunch buddy Elaine Andusko. Bob was born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, PA graduating from Coughlin High School. After High School, he served in the United States Navy on the USS Bennington. Following his time in the service, Bob received his Bachelor’s degree from Kings College and taught Special Education for over 37 years at Susquehanna Community School District. He was a devoted member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Susquehanna, PA where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and would deliver Communion to homebound members of the church Sundays after Mass. Bob was also a lifetime member of the Susquehanna Fire Department; during his tenure with the Department, he held several positions including President and Chief. He also had a fascination with trains and their history and was a dedicated railroad buff, with a model railroad collection of his own and an interest in everything trains. Bob was an avid volunteer in the community, serving on many boards and committees throughout the years. His family and many friends in the community will dearly miss Bob, his quiet demeanor and never-ending spirit for volunteering to help whoever needed it. A Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday February 27, 2021 at 10 at St. John’s Roman Catholic Church, East Church St. Susquehanna, PA. Interment will be in the St. John’s Cemetery at a later date. The family will receive friends at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA on Friday February 26, 2021 from 4 to 7pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Susquehanna Fire Department, PO Box 175 Susquehanna, PA 18847.
