Sophie Bartkus

  Sophie Bartkus Of Ararat, PA    Sophie Bartkus, 89, of Ararat, PA, passed away on Saturday February 22, 2014, at the Forest City Nursing and Rehab Center, Forest City, PA. She was predeceased by her loving husband Walter Bartkus Sr.; one brother William Chizuk; and one sister Mary Wilkos. Sophie was survived by her two sons and daughter-in-laws Walter and Rose Bartkus, and Larry and Bonnie Bartkus; seven grandchildren, Kireen Slocum, Andrew Bartkus, Kate Jaeger, John Bartkus, Amanda Bartkus, Angela Marquardt, and Brian Marquardt; seven great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister Helen Galica; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Sophie had a love for gardening as well as feeding and watching birds. She also loved to cook for her family. Most of all Sophie was a loving mother and grandmother who will be dearly missed. A Funeral Service will be held at the Hennessey’s Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave. Susquehanna, PA, on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 11am with Rev. David Cramer officiating. Interment will be held in the Ararat Cemetery, Ararat, PA at a later date. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Friday, February 28, 2014, from 6 to 8pm.
