Steven Bennett MacNamee

Of Susquehanna, PA

Steven Bennett MacNamee (affectionately known as Papa Voe by those closest to him) passed away on June 28th, 2022, at the age of 66.

He was preceded in death by his parents Christine and George MacNamee, and his brother, Chris.

He is survived by his loving wife Cynthia who brought so much happiness to his life. He is also survived by his sons, Josh and wife, April (Binghamton, NY), Shaun and wife, Chrissy (Vestal, NY), Scott and wife, Tara (Windsor, NY), Matt and wife, Tara (Montrose, PA) and daughter Stephanie and husband, Andy (Binghamton, NY). He leaves behind his 17 grandchildren: Elijah, Tanis, Sebastian, Ethan, Jameson, Aida, Seamus, Tilly, Van, Liam, Maisie, Elin, Blaire, Weston, Marion, Sophie, and Hayes, as well as his brother George (Buddy) and sisters Dana and Sharon.

Steve was born at Lower Bucks County Hospital in Bristol, Pa. on May 13th, 1956. He graduated from Neshaminy High School in 1974. Steve moved his young family to Susquehanna County in 1980 after visiting the area and falling in love with the peace and quiet of the mountains of Northeast Pennsylvania and spent the rest of his life there.

Steve never lost his love for Philadelphia sports teams and was an avid Phillies and Eagles fan. He passed down his team allegiances to his kids and grandkids and often spent time together watching games and cheering them on. His love for sports was evident in the many years he spent coaching youth baseball and football.  Steve gave so much to the community, and he made wonderful friendships and impacted countless kids.

Steve spent many years working hard and laboring for his family. In recent years, he found his true artist’s heart, no doubt inspired by his wife and muse, Cynthia. He found a passion and skill for turning trash into treasure and loved finding, collecting, and repurposing old pieces and giving them a new life. Steve also loved his fish tank, relaxing with his dog Frankie, tending to his garden, and could never pass up a chocolate treat. He had quite the green thumb and sweet tooth, single handedly keeping Yoo-hoo and Little Debbie in business for years.

Papa Voe’s greatest accomplishment were his children and grandchildren. He cherished the time he spent with them and their close-knit bond. They brought so much joy to his life and he was immensely proud of them. His family will be eternally grateful for his sacrifice and devotion. Steve was an honest, loyal, kind, warm-hearted, humble, and creative person. He will be dearly missed and remembered fondly. We find comfort that he is at peace and no longer suffering and as Jimmy Buffet said, “I’ve got to be where the wind and the water are free.”

Please join us in celebrating his life on Thursday, July 7th at Green Gables in New Milford from 5-9pm.
