Stuart Eugene Cook

Of Susquehanna, PA

December 31, 1950 – December 25, 2024

Stuart Eugene Cook passed away peacefully on December 25, 2024, just days before his 74th birthday.

Stuart was born to Lillian and Howard Cook on December 31, 1950. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Diana; his beloved parents, Howard and Lillian; and his close brother, Mark. Stuart's legacy lives on through his daughter Amanda, his son and daughter-in-law Kyle and Anne, and his treasured grandchildren, Owen and Kate. He also leaves behind his brothers and sisters-in-law, Dennis and Linda, Tim and Judy, along with his brother- and sisters-in-law, Steve and Mary Jo Glover, and Mary Mapes, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends who will hold him dear in their hearts.

Stuart was a devoted husband to Diana, the love of his life, with whom he shared 38 beautiful years of marriage until her passing in 2015. He was a fun-loving grandfather to Owen and Kate, who filled his days with laughter as they entertained him playing in the front yard. Affectionately known as "Uncle Stuie" to many, his zest for life and kindness extended far beyond family.

Stuart built a career that mirrored his unwavering work ethic. Over the years, he held positions at Kroehler Furniture, Whitaker Trucking, Crowleys, Chesapeake Manufacturing, and the Susquehanna Community School District. He retired as assistant maintenance supervisor from the school district after nearly two decades, working alongside his best friend, Donnie Norris. Stuart took immense pride in his job, ensuring the grounds were immaculate so that every Saber could proudly call their home field pristine. He also nurtured his own lawn with care, often embellishing it with whimsical flamingo decorations.

Stuart’s passions were as vibrant as his spirit. An enthusiastic sportsman and outdoorsman, Stuart was a founding member, alongside his father, brothers, and several close friends, of the Endless Mountain Rod and Gun Club. He found joy in golfing, hunting, and playing softball with his brothers. Additionally, he loved bowling, fishing, and enthusiastically supporting his cherished Detroit Lions and Tigers. A skilled vegetable gardener, he particularly delighted in growing garlic. His generosity radiated through his community involvement; he volunteered at the Tri-Boro Mobile Food Pantry and coached Little League baseball, giving not only his time but also his enthusiasm for the sport he cherished.

As President of the Class of 1968, Stuart cultivated lifelong friendships, enjoying monthly dinner gatherings that filled him with reminiscing and laughter. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, honored as Moose of the Year in 2003. Known for bartending with humor and cooking chicken wings as a “wingnut,” Stuart brought the fun to every occasion.

Stuart found joy in solving puzzles and scratching lottery tickets, spending countless hours swaying on his porch swing, often accompanied by his little “nut dog” Libby. Stu was always ready to wave at passersby or offer a beer and a chat. He even crafted a giant cardboard hand to wave at his grandchildren's bus, a testament to his playful spirit.

Stuart will be remembered for many things: his fierce loyalty to “the Cook boys,” his competitive nature in everything from softball to hunting, and the way he brought happiness to all simply by being himself. For everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, whether closely or briefly, will surely smile over a fun or crazy memory shared with this extraordinary man.
