Walter D. Fisk Jr.of Susquehanna, PAWalter David Fisk, Jr., 83, of Susquehanna, PA joined his beloved wife, Deborah , in eternal rest on December 8, 2011. He is survived by his 7 children; Floyd, Marsha Maroney, Leo (Mary Kathleen), Barbara (Rick) Dorr, Mary, Sarah Whylly and Rebekah, 9 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Also surviving are 2 sisters, Mary Ficarro and Esther Cobb, 2 brothers, Floyd & Robert. He is predeceased by 4 sisters and his parents. Walt was a veteran of WWII and is considered, according to his accounting, to be this country’s #1 hero. He entertained his children for many hours with stories of his heroic deeds during the war! Until his retirement he worked as the General Yardmaster on the Erie Lackawanna and Conrail Railroads in the Binghamton yard. He was a gifted stone mason and enjoyed working in many stone quarries with two of his best friends, Frederic Boerner and Joe Tarabulski. Part of his lasting legacy is the beautiful bluestone Veteran’s Monument in Susquehanna as well as stonework on many homes and businesses in the Susquehanna & Broome County areas. Among his talents were his beautiful bass voice which he lent to the Susquehanna United Methodist Church Choir, the Tri-Cities Opera, the Susquehanna Choral Society and many other musical and theater groups. Walt was a fixture at the local coffee shops and poker games in his retirement. The family would like to thank his many friends for helping to make his last days pleasant and comfortable. Special thanks go out to his nurses and the staff at Asera Care Hospice for their wonderful care. A memorial service will take place at the Susquehanna United Methodist Church on Main Street in Susquehanna on Saturday, December 17th at 6pm. A time of fellowship will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to the Susquehanna Fire Department, 43 Erie Blvd, PO Box 175, Susquehanna, PA 18847 in appreciation of their repeated, rapid responses to all of our family “barbeques”.
