Our Story

Hennessey’s Funeral Home, Inc., formerly known as McCawley’s Funeral Home, was founded in 1980 by Gerald M. Hennessey and his son, Richard M. Hennessey. In 1990, Gerald retired, and Richard continued operating the family business alongside his wife, Helene.



In 2005, the next generation joined the family tradition when Richard’s son, Sean M. Hennessey, became a full-time licensed Funeral Director.

Continuing to grow and serve the community, Hennessey’s Funeral Home expanded its services in August 2013 with the opening of Church Hill Crematory, located on the same property as the funeral home in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania.

In May 2019, Sean and his wife, Kiera, further expanded the family business by purchasing a second location in Deposit, New York, formerly known as Zacharias Funeral Home.

In addition to funeral and cremation services, Hennessey’s Funeral Home offers a variety of monuments, with personalized engraving options to help families create meaningful and lasting tributes to their loved ones.

For more than four decades, Hennessey’s Funeral Home has remained dedicated to serving the families of the Susquehanna community and surrounding areas with compassion, care, and a commitment to honoring every life. As a family-owned and operated business, we are proud to continue the tradition of personal service that has been at the heart of our family for generations.
